Running to the Mountains and through the Fields

Tonight at the first session of Urbana, our triennial missions conference, Tom Lin, the director, told us a story about a friend he had in his time in Mongolia.

This friend would travel around Mongolia and share the Gospel with all types of people. One of the times Tom met with his friend for lunch in a small town, his friend shared the Gospel with the restaurant owner, as was his custom. The woman cried as she heard the Good News. When asked what made her cry, she told a story of her own.

Apparently, a few days before, she had read a track about the story of Jesus and decided she wanted to meet him. So she decided to go up to the mountains to see if she could meet him there. On the mountainside, she cried out for Jesus, “Jesus! Jesus! Where are you?” But nothing. She left the mountains disappointed. As she came down, she thought to herself, maybe Jesus isn’t in the mountains, but the fields! So she went to the fields and ran through them calling out to Jesus! But nothing. Again, she was disappointed. So she told God that if he was real, would he please send someone to tell her about his Words.

So naturally, it brought her to tears to have this man come and tell her the Good News of Jesus. That day she became a follower of Christ.

I heard that story and was deeply moved at her desire to find Jesus, and Tom’s friend’s desire to share him. I want to have the desire to run through the mountains and fields to find the Lord because I know he will send for me. I want to have the desire to share his good news to anyone because maybe that’s exactly what they are waiting for!

I am being encouraged, filled, and renewed for my vision of ministry and God’s Kingdom.
